The term "THIDORA" means...

According to Buddhism it’s the Mind, the Body and the Word. If a human being is to succeed in this world he or she has to discipline his/her self to use these three doors and should have a firm understanding of what is being done. A person who has acquired the required abilities and the understanding will not fail. Failure or breakdown in these communicative abilities and processes will make a person’s life problematical.

As is stated in Shakespeare’s play “As You like It” all the world’s a stage and we all actors who play roles. If so we should have an understanding of the different roles of others and us play in life. In order to act out these different roles we should grasp the four types of expressive gestures [Abinaya] as Bharatha Muni, the ancient scholar and authority on Dramatic Art has stated.
Three of the above-mentioned gestures i.e. the gesture of the Mind, the gesture of the Word or verbal gesture and the gesture of the Body- happen to coincide with the utterances of the Buddha on this subject. The forth gesture as described by Bharatha Muni is called ‘Aharya Abinaya’ which means the gestures we will make by the costumes, backdrops, lightning, sounds etc. These aspects are not controlled or directed by the actor/actress but are subject to a variety of influence such as culture, nature and performing conditions. These factors are also subject to the director’s guidance.

Even so all human beings must have some form of control over the Mind, Body and Word. If we are in control of these elements we can become a fully-fledged human being.

We THIDORA, while engaged in the process of enhancing the required communicative skills aim at building thereby a life full of worth and respect for every human being.

The THIDORA doors or pathways are open to those who have been disabled in any form, by birth or circumstance and disadvantaged by cultural, gender, ethnic, class and other social factors. Our doors are naturally open to those who are willing to be and work together with the disabled and disadvantaged.
We believe that the Drama Therapy we employ will offer a methodology that would help participants to develop skills and abilities necessary for other expressive arts. Drama brings together a plethora of arts like literature, music, dance, movement, sculpture, painting and several audio-visual arts. Drama will help develop self discipline and self control.
Through THIDORA we would learn to listen more than just to hear, to perceive more than just to see and to think more than what are immediate thoughts would allow. Hence we have selected Drama Therapy as our main teaching tool. Through this process we learn to be critical of the flow of our moods and emotions and arrive at a catharsis that would lead to peace.
We would appreciate all the support you could give to help achieve our noble aims and goals.

Thank You,
Rohana Deva.
Chairman-ThIDORA.
