December 23rd : X’mas celebrations were held at the Thidora Theatre auditorium. The events were organised by Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Weimen and Mrs. Rupa De Silva.

     
December 22nd : Held a Press preview on ‘Thei Yath Tha’ – a narrative poem

ThIDORA Theatre staged a play titled ‘Thei Yath Tha’ at Janakala Kendraya, Battaramulla, based on a narrative poetic work by Bertolt Brecht. The play is adapted and directed by Professor Sunanda Mahendra, in association with Ramani Damayanthi and Rohana Deva. Music is by Gayan Ganakadara, lyrics by Jayampathi Algama and Rohana Deva. Low country dancers were trained by Karunadasa Olaboduwa.
     
November 24th : Made a landmark by blessing our three talented dancers to dance with fire. They are the first ever intellectual disabled who trained to perform ‘Gini Sisila’ the traditional fire dance.

October 18th : Thidora Theatre conducted a Training of Trainers [TOT] programme for Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim teachers, who were undergoing the Diploma Course of Special Education at the Department of Inclusive Education of the National Institute of Education-Sri Lanka.

     
October 09th : Our Creative Director Ramani Damayanthi was the only female to win an award at the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Sri Lanka [TOYP2009]. She won the trophy for her contribution to the well-being of children.

The ceremony was organized by the Junior Chamber International Sri Lanka and HSBC bank and was held at Hotel Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo. D.P.M.T.Jayamanna, Minister Rishard Bathiudeen, M.U.M.Ali Sabry, Wasantha Dukgannarala, Ajantha Mendis [Sri Lankan Cricketer], Prof; Sisil Kumarawadu, Dr. P.Katulanda, S.A.Anurudha Bandara and Asitha Pinnawadu were the other award winners.


     
October 1st : World Children’s Day-2010 was celebrated at the Deaf and Blind School at Ratmalana. The event was organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Protection. We were especially invited to conduct a workshop for children with hearing impairments and visually handicapped.

     
September 30th : Mr. W. M. K. Weerakoon, Director of the Department of Inclusive Education of the National Institute of Education delivered a lecture to educate our parents on Special Education Needs to develop their children, at the main auditorium of Thidora theatre.
     
September 22nd : T.O.T. Programme at the Deaf School at Rathmalana.
To enhance the creative skills of the teachers of the Deaf School at Rathmalana, Mr. Rohana Deva – Chairman and Artistic Director of Thidora theatre conducted a T.O.T. programme which was organized by the AVIVA Company.

to 30th :
A five-day residential workshop for puppeteers.
We conducted a five-day residential workshop for traditional puppeteers as well as amateurs who like to learn modern techniques on puppetry. 30 participants from rural areas attended the workshop. They were fortunate to gain an experience of puppet plays as well as professional Stage Dramas performed in Colombo. Prof, Lionel Bentarage, Mr. Siri Kumarasinghe, Mr.Dumindu Dodanthenna, Mr. Piyal Kariyawasam, were among the guest lecturers. The project was funded by CEPA and facilitated by the Ministry of Cultural and National Heritage.
     
August 09th : We were fortunate to have a one hour discussion and a demonstration of the talents of our students on a popular TV programme at MAX TV.

     
25, 26 & 27 July : Thidora Theatre expanded its services to the Southern Province.
We have expanded our work of psychosocial support to persons living with disability in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Southern Youth Development Foundation in Hambantota affiliated to Thidora Theatre organised a grand public performance at the center of ‘OUR KIDS’ at Hambantota on 27 July. The participants of our workshops -36 from Colombo and 32 from Hambantota performed on the same stage to display the talents of the disabled while raising awareness of their rights.





Journey down South.
It was a joyous and marvelous experience for all the team of 76 who joined the three day tour down south which was organized by the Parents Society of Thidora. The kids and mamas with their friends cracked jokes and enjoyed themselves to and fro.



     
8th July : Our parents were fortunate to have direct discussions with Mr. Daya Rohana Athukorala, senior lecturer of the University of Colombo and popular public speaker on positive thinking who has written several books on similar tropics.

     
15th June : We have taken the initial steps to establish the first ever Puppetry School in Sri Lanka under the wings of Thidora Theatre. Veteran Puppeteer Mr. Siri Kumarasinghe who has been appointed as the course director has already submitted the Manuel of the Course. To begin with we are conducting our puppetry workshop on every Monday from 9.00 am to 3.30pm.

     
4th June : Mr. Gayan Gnakadara –well recognized and acclaimed musician was appointed as the instructor on the music therapy workshop which is sponsored by the Project Ahimsa.
     
27th May : The Parents Society of Thidora Theatre rally around to discuss the success and failure of their darlings under the patronage of the Chairman of Thidora at the newly constructed shelters on the 4th floor of the institute.

     
22nd May : Chairman of Thidora Theatre Rohana Deva conducted a special workshop to train the staff of Eagle Samana,who work with disabled children.

     
10th April : The Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival was held at Thalawathugoda junction. Miss Chinthika Vimukthi was adjudged the New Year Queen with Mr. Prabath Galpatha the as New Year Prince. The event was organised by the Parents Society and the staff of the Workshop.
     
9th April : A special awareness raising program for the parents of Thidora Theatre was held at our main auditorium. Mr.Bimal Rajakaruna, a well known human resource manager was facilitated the occasion.
     
4th April : The 2nd One Day Seminar for traditional puppeteers was held at the Mahachethiya Piriwena Hall, Kandegoda-Ambalangoda. Here, Mr. Nissanka Diddeniya a veteran artist addresses the gathering.
     
12th March : ‘Thisara Geethaya’- Directed by Ramani Damayanthi, was performed on Thursday 12th March, 2009 at 6.15 p.m. at the Janakala Kendra Auditorium - Pelawatte.

     
3rd March : Our students with special education needs are having very special training the colorful traditional dancing theatre in Sri Lanka. Mr. Karunadasa Olaboduwa and Mrs. Dulakshi Lakmalee, veteran dancing duo - husband and wife joined Thidora Theatre as dancing instructors to achieve our goals. Mr. Olaboduwa will join hand with our music instructor to develop the integrated percussion ensemble.

     
13th February : Bertolt Brecht’s the Caucasian Chalk Circle was successfully staged on Friday 13th February, 2009 at the Galle Town Hall Auditorium.
     
25th January : Thidora Opens doors for puppeteers!
The one-day seminar on puppetry was held on Sunday 25th January 2009, at our Thalawathugoda Auditorium under the patronage of Mr. Pandula Edagama-Chairman of the Arts Council of Sri Lanka. Mr. Rohana Beddage and Dr. Patrick Ratnayake were the key lecturers. There were nearly 50 well-known Puppeteers from all over the country who participated and enjoyed the day.
